19. August 2009 - David Mengesdorf will not be entering the last rounds of the Formula BMW Europe series after Gravity Sport Management decided there was little to gain for the talented young German in remaining in the junior series. A difficult season for many reasons coupled with Gravity’s desire to reassess his career, motivated the decision which both parties feel is in their mutual best interest.
“To be successful in motor racing, you really need to have all elements working positively together,” commented David. “With a year of Formula BMW under my belt, I obviously had high expectations before the start of the season. While I believe I did my very best at each race, I also feel we were not making much progress, and the ensuing results were disappointing. Formula BMW is a tremendous place for a driver to learn his trade, but it’s also incredibly competitive and it’s a category which requires one to shine if one is to move up the racing ladder. We felt that things were clearly not moving in the right direction. That said, my motivation and desire to race remains intact and I am still fully committed to my ambition to become a professional racing driver. Simply put, we’re making a pit stop which I hope will be as brief as possible before we work out a few things and take back to the track. Because that is definitely where I wish to be…”
